Ferrous alloys drying line

In the manufacture of steel ferrous, alloys can be used as alloying additions such as: ferrosilicon, ferrovanadium, ferromolybdenum, metal manganese, ferrochrome, ferrotitanium, ferrochrome silicon, ferromanganese, silicomanganese and other additions depending on a range of steel grades to be melted.

Prior to adding to steel-pouring ladle or chilling directly to arc steel-melting furnace ferrous alloys with moisture of more than 1 % or being on open air for more than 2 days shall be subject to drying.

Samara plant “Strommashina” manufactures ferrous alloys drying line providing the creation of high efficiency drying cylinders the capacity of which can vary in a wide range depending on moisture from 20 tons per hour on one unit. As a heat carrier it is suggested to use natural or condensed gas, fuel oil, diesel fuel, oil.

Engineering process includes the following operations:
- material dosing;
- ferrous alloys drying;
- feeding the finished material.

Initial moist ferrous alloys can be transported into the receiving hopper of the plant by means of conveyor or transferred by overhead crane in the self-discharging containers. Ferrous alloys from the receiving hopper go to the drying cylinder by means of automatic dose meter, wherein they undergo thermal treatment.

Ferrous alloys discharge from the drying cylinder is carried out continuously to belt conveyor or to intermediate hopper.

Sleeve filter is used for cleaning the exit gases and aspiration air. Ferrous alloys dust content in the plant emissions does not exceed 10 mg/m3. Gascleaning system uses the equipment, materials and methods of fire-and explosion safety enabling to work with ferrous alloys, the dust of which is pyrophorous and toxic.

Material loading and unloading, maintenance of all set mode parameters of the line operation: proportion gas/air on the burner, water filling of combustion products of the required temperature, power correction of the burner device at changing the efficiency of the drying process is performed automatically. The possibility of operational amendment for drying process parameters is provided as well as the individual drying programs setting for each ferrous alloy.

  • fractional composition of initial material – up to 40 mm.
  • initial surface moisture of raw material – mot more than 14%
  • moisture in the material body — mot more than 2,5%
